This paper presents the main concepts of awareness, and awareness mechanisms in educational groupware. It also discusses the importance of support to the awareness in these systems, it identifies the types of awareness needed in a situation of collaborative learning and, finally, it presents a classification mechanisms responsible to provide awareness to end users of these systems.
